Cigarettes worth Tk 34 lakh seized at Ctg airport

CHATTOGRAM, June 1, 2026 (BSS) - Customs officials at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram seized 1,828 cartons of illegal cigarettes worth approximately Tk 34 lakh.

The cigarettes were seized at around 10:00 pm on Sunday after Air Arabia flight G9-520 arrived from Sharjah, UAE. Airport officials said a joint team searched the luggage of three arriving passengers and recovered 1,132 cartons of cigarettes.
In addition, 696 cartons were found abandoned on a luggage conveyor belt in the arrival area.

The three identified passengers are Md. Mostafa Kamal Sumon of Ramganj in Lakshmipur, Mohammad Abdullah Talukder of Hathazari in Chattogram, and Mohammad Nasir Uddin Talukder of Rangunia in Chattogram.

Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said the seized cigarettes had been handed over to Chattogram Customs House under a Detention Memo (DM).
