Youth dies falling from mango tree in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, June 3, 2026 (BSS)- A youth of the district today died after falling from a mango tree at his father-in-law's house while harvesting ripe 
mangoes. 

The victim was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 26, son of Rashidul Islam, at Daodarpur Union under Sadullapur upazila of the district. He was also son-in-
law of Manik Miah, at Khanggua village of Sundarganj upazila.
 
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Thana Shaheen Mohammad Amanullah said Shafiqul Islam came to his in-law's house on Tuesday morning to 
cut Boro paddy. 

After cutting the paddy, he climbed up a mango tree to harvest ripe mangoes in the late afternoon with a raw bamboo stick. At the time, he electrocuted 
and got stuck in the tree as the raw bamboo stick came in contact with an electricity wire passing by the tree, he added. 

Being informed, staff of Rural Electrification Board rushed to the spot and recovered the body in presence of police. 

Later, the body was handed over to his relatives after maintaining lawful procedure for burial, the OC continued. 

An unnatural death (UD) case was filed with the thana in this connection, he 
added.
