World Environment Day celebrated in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, July 9, 2026 (BSS) - A colourful rally, discussion meeting and prize-giving ceremony were held in Narsingdi today to mark the World Environment Day-2026.

This year’s theme of the day is "Climate Change: Today's Action, Tomorrow's Security."

The programme was organised by the district administration and the Department of Environment at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium on Thursday morning.

The day's events began at 10:00 am with the release of balloons followed by a colourful rally.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium with Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner Israt Jahan Keya attending as the chief guest.

Superintendent of Police of Narsingdi Md. Abdullah-Al-Faruk was present as the special guest.

Deputy Director of the Department of Environment in Narsingdi Md. Badrul Huda, officials of different government departments, students of various educational institutions, guardians, representatives of environmental organisations, members of civil society and journalists also attended the programme.

Speakers at the discussion highlighted the need to protect the environment by expanding tree plantation and reducing plastic use to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change. They stressed that collective efforts and environment friendly lifestyles are essential to ensure a safe and green planet for future generations.

At the end of the programme, prizes and saplings were distributed among the winners of drawing and essay competitions organised to mark the day.
