
SANGSAD BHABAN, July 9, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque today said the government has a plan to construct 10 sports village at ten regions across the country aiming to spread sports at the grassroot level.
Speaking on a private member's resolution moved by BNP MP from Sylhet-3 M Abdul Malique at the Jatiya Sangsad here, the minister said, "a total of ten sports village will be constructed in eight divisions including Faridpur and Cumilla during the current fiscal."
The government already has decided to construct these villages to promote sports at the grassroot level aiming to build a drug-free society.
Responding to the resolution, He said 125 mini-stadiums had already been built and would be renovated, while construction of another 201 mini-stadiums is underway.
Of these, construction of 40 mini-stadiums is in its final stage and they will be opened soon.
The constructions of the stadiums under third stage project will be constructed with the consultation with the lawmakers of the concerned areas, he told the parliament.
Expressing sorrow over the deaths linked to the ongoing FIFA World Cup celebrations, the minister said the death toll so far reached 10 due to chaos over the event at different places throughout the country. He urged the people to be calm and enjoy the event not to create any social disorder.
To professionalize sports, the present government is attaching the highest importance to the sports sector, said the state minister, saying that so, the government is providing sports allowance to the national players.
Meanwhile, the regional phase of the 'Notun Kuri Sports' programme has already been completed, while the national-level final will be held on July 27, with the Prime Minister expected to attend as the chief guest and distribute prizes.
The online registration for the second edition of the 'Notun Kuri Sports' programme began on July 1, and the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the event in the first week of September, the state minister said.
The government also has taken decision to construct Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), the national sports institute of Bangladesh, at Mymensingh and hilly areas.
The BKSP now located in Savar, just outside Dhaka, it is the country's primary government-funded residential academy for discovering and training young athletic talent.
