NARSINGDI, July 17, 2026 (BSS) - Two schoolchildren drowned in a waterbody in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi this morning, just a day after four female madrasah students lost their lives in separate drowning incidents in the same upazila.

The victims were identified as Nipa, 7, daughter of Saddam Hossain, and Jannati, 8, daughter of Nuruzzaman. Both were students of Bheluarchar Government Primary School.

The incident occurred at Namar Char beel in Bheluarchar village under Srinagar Union, confirmed Md Mujibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station.

According to family members and local residents, the two girls had gone to bathe in the beel in front of their homes at around 10:00 am along with four or five other children. At one stage, they slipped beneath the water and drowned.

Hearing the other children's cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot, rescued the two girls from the water and took them to Raipura Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

Medical Officer Dr Sheila said the children were brought to the hospital at around 11:30 am and had died before arrival.

The latest tragedy comes a day after four female madrasah students drowned in a separate incident in the Chanderkandi area of the same upazila.
