RAJSHAHI, July 17, 2026 (BSS) - Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Faruk Wasif today said that journalists must continuously upgrade their technological skills to meet the demands of modern journalism and ensure accurate, credible reporting.

He said artificial intelligence (AI) and fact-checking have emerged as important tools for journalism, but stressed that every piece of information must be properly verified before publication.

Faruk Wasif was addressing the closing ceremony of a three-day training workshop on "AI and Fact Checking" as the chief guest at the conference room of the Department of Social Services in Rajshahi.

At the ceremony, he distributed certificates among the participating journalists who completed the training.

Emphasising the growing role of technology in news reporting, the PIB Director General said AI and fact-checking should be used efficiently to strengthen journalism, while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and credibility.

He also underscored the need to enhance journalists' technical expertise and professional ethics to effectively counter misinformation, disinformation and rumours.

Describing journalists as key partners of the state and society, Faruk Wasif said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been implementing various programmes through PIB to strengthen journalists' professional skills, improve their welfare and expand their capacity to use modern technologies.

He expressed hope that effective implementation of these initiatives would enable journalists to perform their responsibilities with greater professionalism and efficiency.

The PIB chief also stressed the importance of ensuring media freedom, responsibility and objective reporting, saying that only skilled and technology-aware journalists can play a meaningful role in building an accountable and democratic society.

A total of 40 journalists from different print and electronic media outlets in Rajshahi district took part in the three-day workshop.

The training covered the application of AI in journalism, fact-checking techniques, ethical use of AI, copyright issues, information privacy and the responsible use of emerging technologies.
