Developing Barind into smart agricultural zone is BMDA's goal: Chairman

RAJSHAHI, July 21, 2026 (BSS) - Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) Chairman Agriculturist Hasan Jafir Tuhin today said the authority aims to transform the Barind region into a sustainable, prosperous and smart agricultural zone through efficient water management and modern irrigation.

He made the remarks while chairing a coordination meeting at the BMDA headquarters in Rajshahi to review the authority's activities, progress of ongoing development projects and future action plans.

The BMDA chairman said protecting groundwater, maximizing the use of surface water, expanding modern irrigation technology and building a climate-resilient agricultural system are essential to sustaining agricultural productivity in the Barind region.

He urged BMDA officials and employees to ensure quality, transparency and timely implementation of development projects and work with dedication to accelerate the region's development.

The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing projects, irrigation activities, water resources management and agricultural development, and discussed measures to make field-level activities more effective.
