Six suspected members of theft ring detained in Meherpur

MEHERPUR, July 21, 2026 (BSS) - Six women allegedly involved in a theft ring were caught red-handed at Meherpur General Hospital while they were attempting to steal cash and a mobile phone from a patient today. 

They were later handed over to Meherpur Sadar Police. The incident occurred in front of the chamber of a pediatric specialist at the hospital.

Hospital authorities said that complaints of theft-snatching cash, mobile phones, other valuables from patients and their relatives had been increasing in different wards and outpatient departments over the past several days.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir of Meherpur Sadar Police Station said preliminary information reveals that the detained women are residents of different areas of Jamalpur district. He added that legal proceedings are underway and that the suspects are being questioned to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged theft ring.
