DHAKA, July 31, 2025 (BSS) - Fact-checking platform, BanglaFact, operated by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), has identified a misleading information with pictures on social media claiming that police arrested a 120-year old man for attacking students during the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August 2024 who was actually arrested in a case related to a family dispute and clashes over the Union Parishad elections in 2003.

According to a BanglaFact investigation report, when reverse image was searched, the first image of the pictures circulating on social media was found in a report published on the website of media organization Prothom Alo.

The investigation report found that the report published on Wednesday revealed that the old man's name is Idris Sheikh, 120, and he was in jail in a murder case in 2003.

So, the information with some pictures claiming that the old man was arrested for attacking students during the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August 2024 is not correct.

In fact, he was arrested in a case related to a family dispute and clashes over the Union Parishad elections in 2003, it added.
