National Kabaddi championship begins

DHAKA, July 29, 2025 (BSS)-The National Kabaddi (men’s and women’s) championship, on occasion of Festival of Youth 2025, began today (Tuesday) with Padma Zone at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.

Bogra Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza formally inaugurated the Padma Zone phase as chief guest. Bogra Superintendent of Police Zedan Al Musa, Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation treasurer Monir Hossain and other dignitaries of the district were present at the time.

Men's teams from eight districts and women's teams from six districts are participating in the Padma zone. The final match of this zone will be held on July 31.

The championship, is divided into eight zones each with eight district teams. After the Padma zone, the other zonal competition of the championship will be held in phases.  

The zones are named after major rivers of Bangladesh. The zones are Teesta (Rangpur district), Brahmaputra (Tangail district), Karnaphuli (Cumilla district), Rupsha (Jessore district), Dhansieri (Barisal district) Surma (Sylhet district) and Modhumoti (Gopalganj district).

After the zonal phase, the champions of each zonal venue will play in the inter-district championship. The four semi-finalist teams from the inter-district championship along with the services teams will take part in the national championship which will be held in Dhaka at a later stage.

The organizers of the Kabaddi federation think that this competition would play an important role in enhancing Kabaddi as the national sport across the country.
