DHAKA, July 30, 2025 (BSS) - Throughout the month of July, the three hill districts- Khagrachari, Rangamati and Bandarban witnessed vibrant celebrations of “July Awakening”, “July Uprising” and “Youth Festival 2025”, aimed at inspiring youth with historical awareness, promoting regional culture and harmony, and engaging young communities through sports.

One of the festival’s key highlights was a friendly football tournament commemorating “July Awakening and July Mass Uprising Day 2025,” held independently in all three districts throughout the month, said a ministry press release today.

The tournaments drew participation from various youth teams, generating widespread enthusiasm and civic spirit. More than just competition, the matches evolved into lively youth carnivals that blended sports, culture and social solidarity.

Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Ambassador (retd) Supradeep Chakma shared his reflections during the event, saying that the July Uprising was a landmark movement in the struggle for Bangali identity, justice and democratic values. “The sacrifices made by martyrs during the uprising will forever serve as a source of national inspiration,” he said.

He also extended his gratitude to the organizers of the friendly matches across the three hill districts, recognizing their contributions in honoring the country’s glorious history through youth-driven initiatives.

The finals of the tournaments featured prize distribution ceremonies for champion and runner-up teams in each district.

Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council Agriculturist Kajol Talukdar, Chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council Professor Thanjama Lusai and Acting Chairman of Khagrachari Hill District Council Shefalika Tripura were present at the ceremony. They played key roles in facilitating the tournaments and personally motivated the youth by attending the matches.

Approximately 50,000 spectators — men and women from the three districts — joined the festivities by attending matches, cheering on players, and celebrating the communal joy of the event. Their overwhelming participation reflects the profound interest in sports and cultural unity throughout the hill communities.

Organizers said that July Awakening, July Uprising and Youth Festival 2025 stood as a remarkable example of how history, heritage and the energy of youth can converge to strengthen peace, progress and mutual harmony in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The initiative is expected to pave the way for further steps toward sustainable development and social unity in the region.
