NARBONNE, France, Aug 7, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - France's biggest wildfire this summer has been brought under control, the local prefecture said on Thursday, after it killed one person and destroyed thousands of hectares of land and dozens of homes in the south.

Some 2,000 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze, which broke out on Tuesday -- the most severe fire in France's Mediterranean region in at least 50 years, according to a government database tracking wildfires since 1973.
