CHANDPUR, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - Md. Jalal Uddin, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Chandpur-2 constituency in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, has pledged to improve standards of education and restore a healthy social environment if he gets people’s mandate.
He made this commitment in an exclusive interview with BSS Chandpur district correspondent Abdus Salam Azad Jewel ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
“To restore education and social environment, Matlab must be freed from drugs, terrorism, and extortion. This is my main goal,” said Md. Jalal Uddin, a member of BNP’s central executive committee.
BSS: What are your promises to the voters of your constituency?
Jalal Uddin: To reduce the distance between Matlab and Dhaka, I will work for the speedy implementation of the proposed hanging Gazaria Bridge. Once built, Matlab will be only one and a half hours away from Dhaka. I will also work for the implementation of the alternative Dhaka-Chattogram highway via Matlab, which will transform Matlab into an industrial and tourism town.
Shortages of electricity, water, and gas will be addressed. Employment opportunities for women will be created alongside ensuring social and economic security.
For education and healthcare, a university and medical college will be established, along with a 500-bed modern hospital.
Surrounded by rivers, I will try to develop a tourism industry here. Plans will be taken to set up more industries on both sides of the embankment, and steps will be taken to widen the embankment, ensuring employment opportunities.
The government stipends will be arranged for imams, muezzins, and such facilities will also be given to religious leaders of other faiths. Old-age homes will be established for elderly men and women while farmers will receive agricultural cards, women will be given family cards for financial security, and minorities will enjoy social protection and freedom to practice their religious rituals.
Above all, comprehensive facilities will be ensured in line with the 31-point program announced by party chairman Tarique Rahman.
BSS: What instructions have you given to your leaders and activists regarding compliance with the electoral code of conduct?
Jalal Uddin: Since the announcement of the election schedule, my leaders and activists have been working in full compliance with the electoral code of conduct. They will continue to do so until the election. I have instructed them accordingly.
BSS: What is your position on the July Charter referendum?
Jalal Uddin: As a politician representing my party, it is my duty to implement the party’s decisions. Whatever decision my party takes, and whatever decision the people of my constituency make, I will stand by that.
BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming national election?
Jalal Uddin: My expectation is that the election will be free, fair, neutral, and peaceful. There will be no chaos or unrest. Everyone will be able to cast their votes in a festive atmosphere, and the nation will witness a beautiful election.
