Govt plans huge employment in livestock sector

SANGSAD BHABAN, April 16, 2026 (BSS)- Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has said the government is working to make the livestock sector as an major area for employment. 

He said activities are underway to adopt new projects designed to harness the potential of the livestock sector, he said while replying to a scripted question from opposition member from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Quamrul Hassan (Mymensingh-6) in the House today.
The minister said once implemented, these projects are expected to make a significant contribution to reducing unemployment.

The Minister said initiatives have focused on developing skilled human resources, creating employment opportunities, and accelerating the growth of self-reliant communities and an entrepreneurial class. 

As a result, self-employment is expected to increase, ensuring greater participation of people in economic activities, he said.

The minister listed a number of projects take for the development of the sector:

1.    Development and Expansion of Indigenous Dairy Cattle in the Sylhet Region Project
2.    Livestock Development in Char and River Erosion-Prone Areas of North-Central Region Project
3.    Strengthening Central Poultry Farm Capacity for Expansion of Climate-Resilient Chicken Breeds Project
4.    Union Livestock Service Delivery Enhancement Project (ULSDEP)
5.    Livestock AI Services Modernization Project (LASMP)
6.    Climate Resilience and Risk Management for Livestock Services Transformation Project (CRLSTP)
7.    Upazila Veterinary Service Delivery Improvement Project (UVSDIP)
8.    Central Veterinary Hospital Modernization and Expansion Project
9.    District Veterinary Service Modernization and Enhancement Project (DVSMEP)
10.    Poultry and Duck Farm Livestock Service Enhancement Project (PDF-LSEP)
11.    Small Ruminant Farm Development and Modernization Project (SRF-DMP)

Successful implementation of the projects are expected to significantly enhance employment generation, promote entrepreneurship, and contribute to overall economic growth of the country, the minister told the House.
