93pc recruitment in 1st, 2nd class govt jobs based on merit: Abdul Bari

SANGSAD BHABAN, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Public Administration Md. Abdul Bari today said that currently 93 percent of recruitment to first and second class government jobs is being made on the basis of merit.

He said this in Parliament while responding to a written tabled question placed by opposition lawmaker Md. Nurul Islam (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami) from Chapainawabganj-3 constituency.

The State Minister said that according to a government gazette issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on July 23, 2024, the existing recruitment policy allocates 93 percent of positions based on merit, 5 percent for the children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters and war heroines, 1 percent for ethnic minorities, and 1 percent for persons with physical disabilities and third gender individuals.
