Over 5 lakh people receive legal advice at govt cost

DHAKA, Mar 29, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 555,908 people have received free legal advice through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), according to a report.

The report, released on the NLASO website, revealed that the services were provided to financially insolvent justice seekers from 2009 to February 2026. 

The report further said that during this period, 27,010 people received services through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 307,009 people from Legal Aid offices in 64 districts across the country, and 22,083 people from the Dhaka and Chattogram Labour Legal Aid Cells.

In addition, 199,806 people received legal advice by calling the national helpline call center ‘16699’.

These services are being provided at government expense under the Legal Aid Services Act with the aim of ensuring legal assistance for financially disadvantaged and incapable justice seekers in the country.

The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) operates the programme under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
