
SIRAJGANJ, June 24, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced two men to life imprisonment in the murder case of Dr. Baki Mirza, the then Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 Laila Sharmin delivered the verdict. The court also fined each convict Taka 1,00,000, and in default, they will have to suffer an additional six months of imprisonment.
The convicted persons are Zakaria Masud, 43, a representative of a pharmaceutical company and a resident of Janpur area under Sirajganj municipality, and Anwar Hossain Karim, 45, of Khaga village under Bahuli Union of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.
Anwar Hossain Karim was present in the court when the verdict was announced, while Zakaria Masud remains absconding.
The judge also said that proceedings against another accused, Dr Abdul Latif, have been temporarily suspended following a revision petition filed with the High Court. The trial proceedings against him will resume after disposal of the High Court petition.
According to case documents, Dr Baki Mirza was found dead at his residence on the night of April 16, 2011. A case was filed accusing four people.
Police submitted the charge sheet to the court on February 20, 2012, following an investigation into the case. One of the accused, Ruhul Amin Babu, was discharged from the case after his death.
