DHAKA, April 19, 2025 (BSS) - National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman, Professor Ali Riaz today said the leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) played a pivotal role in ending the 15-year-long fascist regime and ushering in a new, hopeful chapter in Bangladesh's history."

He made this remark at the beginning of the discussion between the National Consensus Commission and NCP that started at about 10:30am at the LD Hall of the Parliament Building here, said a press release.

Commission members Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider were present.

The eight-member delegation led by convener Md. Nahid Islam included party member secretary Akhtar Hossain, Samantha Sharmin, Hasnat Abdullah, Nasiruddin Patwari, Sarwar Tushar, Javed Rasin and Nahida Sarwar Niva.

Ali Riaz said, "You've successfully overthrown a fascist regime that for so long had weighed heavily on our chests likes a stone. Through the sacrifices of your comrades, your fearless struggle, and your willingness to risk lives, you've defeated it, paving the way for state reform in Bangladesh."

He continued, "We've identified common ground among the various recommendations made by the reform commissions, and we'll move forward based on those areas of consensus. Discussions will continue on points where there is partial agreement or disagreement."

"Now is the time for all of us to build a new Bangladesh together. Let fascism never return to this country. May the democratic institutions of the state take a permanent shape. May human rights be established. May we be able to prevent disappearances, murders, extrajudicial killings and all kinds of oppression," he added.

The reform commissions formed in the first phase - the Constitutional Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission have placed their recommendations.

The important recommendations of them have been sent to 39 political parties in the form of spreadsheets requesting them to provide specific opinions on those.

So far, the National Consensus Commission has received opinions from 35 parties on the reform.

On March 23, the NCP submitted their opinions to the commission. In that context, the commission held discussions with the party today.
