DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) – Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin has expressed his intention to relinquish his current responsibilities, and there is no question of his removal, said Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain here today.

“He (Jashim) wants to leave this responsibility for various reasons. He remains in government service, so the role will shift — but there is no issue of dismissal,” Adviser Touhid told reporters during a media interaction at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon.

The adviser further noted that the foreign secretary is expected to leave his current post within the next couple of days. “His (Jashim) role is being changed at his own request,” he said.

When asked about the appointment of a new Foreign Secretary, Touhid replied, “You will come to know in few days.”

In April, the government appointed Mohammad Sufiur Rahman, former Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN offices in Geneva and Ambassador to Switzerland, as Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, with the rank and status of a state minister.

Asked about Sufiur Rahman's status, the foreign affairs adviser said, “He has not joined yet. The government will decide when he will assume the role.”
