DHAKA, June 1, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus today stressed the need for reviving the lost glory of jute and increasing its use to strengthen the country's economy.

"When you talk about jute, it is an emotional issue for Bangladesh. This country is a unique country, which produces enormous natural fibers over many years," he said.

The chief adviser made the remarks while addressing the China-Bangladesh Conference on Investment and Trade in the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) office, Agargaon, here.

Jute remains a fiber just for making sacks - the natural fiber in the world which is failed to fulfill expectation about environment and about protection of planet, he said.

At the beginning of his speech, Prof Yunus said: "Together we can make a wonderful start of jute to give it a right place in our economic programmes".

Calling Bangladesh a home to Jamdani and many other fabrics, he said jute can be used in multiple usages.

On the occasion, he also recalled the lost glory of Muslin as Dhaka muslin was the most valuable fabric on the planet.

Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Went and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen also spoke at the conference, among others.
