Efforts to ensure safe Eid journey to be continued: Transport Secretary

DHAKA, March 29, 2025 (BSS) - Senior Secretary to the Road Transport ministry Md Ehsanul Haque today said the efforts to ensure happy and safe Eid journey of this year would be continued.

The senior secretary made this comment while briefing journalists after inspecting the Sayedabad and Gabtoli inter-district bus terminals at Gabtoli Bus Terminal here.

He said that the ministry along with senior officials of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Police, representatives from the transport owners and workers held several meetings to ensure safe journey of the home goers during the Eid.

"We have taken decisions to curb extortion, mugging, stealing, dacoity and charging of extra fare from the passengers during the Eid-ul-Fitr," he said, adding that these efforts would also be continued during the return of the people after Eid.

Replying to a query, the secretary said that the BRTA has set up booth at all bus terminals and the RAB and Dhaka Metropolitan Police are also working on it round-the-clock to check charging of extra fare.

Necessary steps would be taken against the culprits immediately after getting allegation of collection of extra fare, he added.

The secretary also sought cooperation of all to ensure smooth Eid journey and safety and security of the homebound passengers.

Among others, Chairman of the BRTA Md Yasin and senior police officials and representatives of the transport owners and workers, were also accompanied the secretary.
