Rizwana for valuing local opinions in NAP implementation

DHAKA, May 4, 2025 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said opinions of local people should be considered in implementing the National Adaptation Plan (NAP). 

She also stressed giving emphasis on water resource management, disaster preparedness, and forest and wildlife conservation in NAP implementation. 

"The plan should not remain a mere technical or administrative document but it must incorporate the perspectives of local communities," Rizwana told a meeting here.

The meeting was held at Pani Bhaban in Panthapath area, Dhaka. 

The meeting focused on the Locally Led Adaptation Framework (LLAF) and programmatic approaches to NAP implementation, with participation of representatives from the Ministry of Environment, CEGIS, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The environment adviser said the Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) is an effective approach to addressing the impacts of climate change. 

By valuing local realities, needs, and capacities, it is possible to ensure sustainable adaptation, she said. 

Participants at the meeting stressed developing a coordinated and inclusive action plan for the implementation of LLAF and NAP.

They also expressed their commitment to working together in the future.

Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, Additional Secretary (Climate Change), Ministry of Environment; Malik Fida A. Khan, Executive Director of CEGIS; Dharitri Kumar Sarkar, Joint Secretary of the ministry; Roslina Parvin, Senior Assistant Secretary; and Mousumi Parvin, Senior Climate Change Officer of ADB, were present at the meeting, among others.
