DHAKA, May 5, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh authorities are set to start enrolling expatriate voters in Canada next week while the process is underway in eight other countries, Election Commission (EC) officials said here today.

“Voters registration is underway in eight countries, we are to begin it in Canada next week,” EC’s National Identity (NID) Registration Wing Director General ASM Humayun Kabir told reporters today.

But, he said, lack of adequate space in Bangladesh embassies in other countries appeared as a major obstacle launching the registration process.

But the EC recently held meetings with the finance and foreign ministries on the matter and an inter-ministerial meeting would be held next week to address the issue.

Kabir said the NID wing planned to provide NID services in 40 countries and “I hope there will be some more progress by the end of this month”.
