KHULNA, May 19, 2025 (BSS) – Akil Mahmud, a student from Nilphamari in the northern region, has decided to pursue his higher education in Khulna University (KU) considering its politics and session-jam free environment that ultimately helps him to complete his undergraduate (honors) degrees within the four years timeframe.

While talking to BSS, Akil Mahmud, who came here with guardians today to admit to first year honours course, said, “The absence of student politics at KU is a very positive side especially for me. The campus is clean and beautifully maintained; it’s a truly scenic environment. Such natural beauty can attract anyone.”

Combination of a politics-free campus, session jam-free academic activities, and a naturally beautiful, serene environment have turned KU into an attractive higher education institution in the southern region of Bangladesh.

It is the only public university in the country that consistently conducts academic activities and examinations in two terms, including January to June and July to December, according to a set academic calendar of KU.

As a result, students can complete their undergraduate (honors) degrees within the scheduled four-year timeframe. Naturally, this has created significant interest among students from outlying parts of the country.

During the undergraduate admission process for the 2024–25 academic years, many students and their guardians shared such sentiments about KU on Sunday.

Ayesha Tahrin, who came to seek admission into KU from Dhaka, said that the overall environment of KU’s campus has impressed her and she has planned to pursue her higher education in the university.

“Compared to other universities, the environment at KU is unique. Teachers here are very supportive. Also, the absence of session jams encourages students to pursue higher education at KU,” Tahrin added.

Lamya Akter Khushi from Monirampur, Jashore, told BSS, “KU is a role model in the country. Students grow up here in a beautiful, politics-free environment. I’ve a long cherished dream to study here.”

Amir Hossain, guardian of a student from Natore, said his daughter has a long desire to study at KU. “As parents, we want our children to study in a place free from political chaos, where there is security and a focus on academic activities. Khulna University is a perfect example of that.”

Rabeya Begum, guardian of a student from Joypurhat, said, “Because of the favourable academic environment, KU enjoys a strong reputation. By enrolling our daughter here, we can feel relax. The absence of student politics and session jams has made us more interested for KU and the campus itself is very scenic.”

Kakon Akter, who came from Pirojpur to enroll her son, said, “Overall academic environment here is excellent. I came to know that the teachers are sincere, classes are held regularly, and the environment is peaceful.”

Rakibul Islam, father of a student from Chuadanga, said, “My daughter got admission offers from several universities, but she prefers KU. One of the biggest positive things here is safety on campus. Students want to grow in a supportive environment, so getting admitted to KU feels like a dream comes true for her.”

About the university’s policies, Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, Director of Student Affairs, told BSS, “We are always committed to ensuring a safe, politics-free, and intellectually stimulating environment for students. We implement various initiatives to keep them engaged in academic and co-curricular activities.”

Professor Dr. Md. Harun-or-Rashid Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of KU, said, “Since its inception, Khulna University has strictly followed its academic calendar. Our term-based education system allows timely completion of classes and exams, enabling students to enter the job market earlier.”

Talking to BSS, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim said, “The core strength of Khulna University lies in its punctuality and well-organized administrative structure. We always strive to create a creative, technology-driven, and supportive learning environment for our students. Our dedication is reflected in the growing interest from students across the country.”

Khulna University began its academic journey on November 25, 1991. Since its establishment, it has remained free from student politics and session jams.

Currently, over 8,000 students are enrolled in 29 disciplines under 8 schools. More than 15,000 graduates have already earned their degrees and are playing prominent roles both at home and abroad.
