JU boosts research funding despite national education budget cuts: VC

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, May 19, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today said, JU has increased its budget allocation for research activities, despite reductions in the national education budget.

JU VC acknowledged the financial constraints posed by continuous cuts to the national education budget.

However, he emphasized that the current JU administration remains committed to promoting research and has taken steps to enhance research-related allocations and support for faculty members.

The VC made these remarks while addressing the inauguration of an annual research project at the Business Studies faculty building around 10.30am.

"The national allocation for education continues to shrink, yet we have prioritized research funding to foster academic excellence," he stated.

The VC stressed the need for self-awareness among academics and encouraged ethical conduct at both personal and institutional levels. He also urged faculty members to publish their work in reputable national and international journals to raise the university's academic profile.

Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof Nigar Sultana presided over the event, while Millennium University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Abhinay Chandra Saha and Jagannath University's Marketing Department Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Mahfuz attended the event as special guests.

Faculty members from various departments under the Business Studies faculty participated in the seminar, where summaries of 25 university-funded research papers were presented.
