Govt steps up efforts to support marginalized women: Adviser

DHAKA, May 20, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid has said the government is committed to the welfare of underprivileged and neglected women across the country.

"All officials of the Social Services Division must work sincerely to ensure that women from all walks of life, including those in the hill tracts, enjoy equal rights," she said.

The adviser made the remarks while exchanging views with officials of the Social Services Division and local dignitaries at the Circuit House in Rangamati on Monday.

The event was organized by the Rangamati district administration and chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin.

"We must ensure that women in the hill tracts receive the same opportunities and rights as women elsewhere in the country. Therefore, the activities of the Social Services and Cooperative Divisions in these areas should be made more dynamic while discharging duties," the adviser added in her address as the chief guest.

Upon her arrival at the Circuit House, the adviser was received by Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Farhad Hossen and Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin.

Social Welfare Secretary Dr. M Mohiuddin, Superintendent of Police Farhad Hossain, Rangamati Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rifat Asma, District Social Services Deputy Director M Omar Faruque, Family Planning Officer Dr. Baby Tripura, women leader Nirupa Dewan, among others, were present.
