Govt to procure 1 cargo LNG, 70,000 MTs fertilizer

DHAKA, May 20, 2025 (BSS) – The government today approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo LNG and 70,000 metric tons of fertilizer to meet the country’s growing demand.

The approvals came from the 20th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase in this year held today at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market following international quotation method from M/S Gunvor Singapore Pte Limited Singapore with around Taka 586.46 crore.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer under the 12th lot under state-level agreement with OCP NUTRICROPS, Morocco with around Taka 324.52 crore where per ton fertilizer would cost $665.

In another proposal, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO, Bangladesh under the 16th lot for the current fiscal year with around Taka 152.71 crore with per ton fertilizer costing $417.25.

The day’s purchase committee meeting also approved separate proposals from the Ministry of Railways, Road Transport and Highways Division, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, and the Armed Forces Division.
