DHAKA, May 29, 2025 (BSS) - World No Tobacco Day-2025 will be observed in the country, as elsewhere in the world, aiming to raise awareness about the consequences of tobacco consumption and to encourage people to quit smoking.

The main theme for World No Tobacco Day 2025 in Bangladesh is to expose the deceptive tactics used by tobacco companies and to promote a tobacco- and nicotine-free country, according to an official handout issued by the National Tobacco Control Cell of the Health Service Division under the Ministry of Health here today.

On this day, governments, non-government organizations, and individuals come together to advocate for stronger tobacco control measures, such as higher taxes on tobacco products, smoke-free public spaces, and bans on tobacco advertising.

The Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act, 2005, is the principal law governing tobacco control in Bangladesh. The comprehensive act covers various areas such as smoke-free spaces, tobacco advertising, the sale of tobacco to and by minors, and the packaging and labelling of tobacco products.
