DHAKA, May 30, 2025 (BSS) - Agriculture Secretary Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian today emphasized spreading Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in mango production throughout the country.

"Mangoes produced through GAP are safe for health and that is why we have to spread this practice throughout the country," he said while inaugurating the marketing program for safe mangoes produced through GAP at the 'farmers' market' in the city's Manik Miah Avenue, an official release said.

The agriculture secretary said there is ample demand all over the world for mangoes produced in the country as they are delicious and of good quality, adding, "But due to limitations, we cannot reach them. We want to overcome the problem through improved agricultural practices and increased exports. Bangladeshi mangoes are exported to 38 countries. This year, China has been added in that list. Last year, 1,300 metric tons of mangoes were exported abroad. We can increase mango exports to 50,000 tons. For this, mangoes have to be produced and marketed in accordance with the regulations of the importing country."

Laying emphasis on developing mango color and expanding mango season in line with the food safety, Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian said country's scientists are working on this.

"We are working to produce and market mangoes properly. For this, there are several projects under the ministry. We will solve the problems of export. Inter-ministerial meeting has been held to overcome export obstacles," he added.

Presided over by Department of Agricultural Extension Director General Md Saiful Alam, the function was attended by Bangladesh Jute Research Institute Director General Dr Nargis Akter and Program on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER) Coordinator Abul Kalam Azad, among others.
