Persons involved in illegal gas connections face music: Fouzul

DHAKA, June 1, 2025 (BSS) - Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said that administrative measures area being taken against the persons involved in illegal gas connections.

“A section of dishonest businessmen and officials of the Titas Gas Company are responsible for illegal gas connections,” he said while briefing journalists at Ashulia and Valuka areas after visiting the supply condition of fuel and power to different industries on Saturday.

The adviser visited different factories and industries at Ashulia, Chandra, Kaliakoir, Mirzapur, Gazipur and Valuka from 7am to 8pm on Saturday and exchanged views with the industry owners.

“The government has already imported four cargoes of additional LNG for increasing the supply of gas to the industries, which has already injected to the transmission lines,” he said, adding that the pressure of gas supply to the factories and industries has already increased.

Replying to a question, Fouzul Kabir said there are some problems in the transmission lines and the government has already taken measures to solve it. 

The adviser instructed the district administration, gas and electricity companies and joint forces to launch special drive to disconnect the illegal connections. He also instructed the senior officials of the power and energy sectors to inspect the fuel and power supply conditions at different factories and industrial areas.

Energy Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam, Petro Bangla Chairman Md Rezanur Rahman, Managing Director of Titas Gas Company Limited Shahnewaz Parvez, Chairman of the Power Development Board Md Rezaul Karim and Chairman of the Rural Electrification Board Major General SM Ziaul Azim accompanied the adviser during the visit.
