Verify information before taking action: info secretary

DHAKA, June 1, 2025 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana today said the newly appointed officers should carefully verify the accuracy of information before taking any action, urging them to take proactive measures in countering rumors and misinformation.

She made the remark while addressing an orientation session for newly recruited BCS (Information) cadre officers and ninth-grade officers of Bangladesh Television (BTV) at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said a press release. 

Welcoming the new officers, the secretary stressed the importance of conducting official duties in compliance with the laws and regulations. 

She urged them to be alert about which actions are appropriate and which are not, emphasizing the need for awareness and responsibility in their roles.

Recalling the sacrifices made during the mass uprising of July, the secretary said, “We have reached this position through immense sacrifice and bloodshed. To pay back to the martyrs, officials must carry out their responsibilities with honesty, integrity, and accountability.”

Addressing the young officers, she added, “You must maintain public engagement and carry out your duties with transparency and credibility.” 

The secretary encouraged them to make meaningful contributions to their careers by striving for excellence in their work.

Additional Secretaries Md. Kausar Ahammad and Dr. Mohammad Altaf-ul-Alam, and Joint Secretary Kazi Ziaul Baset also spoke at the event.
