DHAKA, Aug 1, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Army has formed a court of inquiry to investigate into the allegation of political involvement of a military officer based on intelligence report received from a law-enforcing agency.

The officer is now in the Army's custody after he was apprehended from his residence in the city’s Uttara on July 17, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said in a statement today.

However, the army didn’t disclose the name and rank of the officer.

Noting that the Bangladesh Army is treating the matter with utmost importance, the ISPR said a preliminary investigation found evidence substantiating the allegation.

"Based on the findings of the full investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the officer in accordance with the military law and regulation," it said.

The ISPR statement said, the Army is coordinating with the police and other law-enforcing agencies on this matter. A separate inquiry has been launched over the officer's unauthorized absence from his duties.

After the investigation the ‘Command Responsibility’ of the officer will be ascertained under the military law as recommended by the court, and legal action will be taken accordingly, it said.

The ISPR stressed that the Army is a non-political, disciplined and professional institution, and there is no room for political involvement within its ranks.

"Any member of the Armed Forces found engaged in political activities will face appropriate action under military law. The Army remains fully committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and constitutional responsibility among all its members," the ISPR statement added.
