DHAKA, Aug 1, 2025 (BSS)-  Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir has expressed gratitude to Chief Adviser Dr. Mohammad Yunus for his government’s successful diplomacy to reduce US tariffs on Bangladeshi products.

"Today, there's good news. A few days ago, America imposed a 35% tariff on us. Today, through discussions between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the advisors, this has been reduced to 20%. For this, I thank the interim government," Fakhrul said.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while addressing a rally in memory of the martyrs of July uprising organized by Dhaka Mohanagar Uttar BNP chapter at Uttara Azampur here today.

BNP's Sports Affairs Secretary and convener of Dhaka Mohanagar Uttar BNP Aminul Haque presided over the rally while Member Secretary  Mostafa Zaman moderated the rally.

Referring to the public desire for a national election in February next year, Fakhrul said, "The Chief Adviser has told about giving national election in February, and we want that.

“People of the country want an election and they want the country to be run by an elected government," he said.

Laying importance on holding the parliament election the BNP secretary general said, “Now I have no forum if I face a problem. That's why we need an election quickly. We need a parliament where our problems will be discussed.”

Mirza Fakhrul further stated that the Awami League had been fooling with people of the country for a long time. Those who commit injustice and betray people they would have finally flee the country."

"We will not compromise with those who loot public wealth, banks and involve with extortion and grabbing people’s land," he said.
