RAJSHAHI, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - The election to the Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU), Hall Council, and Students' Representative to Senate 2025 has been rescheduled.

Chief Commissioner of the election, Prof Dr F Nazrul Islam, told BSS that the RUCSU election will now be held on September 28, instead of the previously announced September 15.

As per the revised schedule, distribution of nomination papers will take place from August 24 to 28 and again on August 31, while submission of nomination papers will be accepted from September 1 to 4 and on September 7.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on September 8 and 9. The preliminary list of candidates will be published on September 11, followed by submission and settlement of objections on September 14.

September 15 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal of candidature, and the final list of candidates will be published on September 16.

Polling will be held on September 28 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm without any break at the university's administrative building. Counting of votes and announcement of results will take place on the same day.

Earlier, on August 19, the final voter list was published for the upcoming elections. A total of 25,152 students, including 15,468 female students, have been enlisted as eligible voters for the student body elections of the public university.

After a long gap of 35 years, students of Rajshahi University are set to regain their representative rights through the long-awaited RUCSU election. The last RUCSU election was held during the 1989-90 academic year.

Preparations are underway in full swing to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.

According to the RUCSU constitution, student union elections are to be held annually. However, the process had been stalled for decades due to various reasons.
