Fascist Hasina destroyed democratic process: Ruhul Kabir Rizvi

JAMALPUR, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said people had suffered 16 years under the repressive government of fascist Sheikh Hasina who destroyed country’s democratic process. 

He said during the last 16 years under the leadership of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman BNP leaders-activists struggled hard to create a democratic field in the country. 

Rizvi made the comments while speaking at a party’s workers gathering at Dewanganj Girls High School field in Dewanganj Upazila in the district.

He said BNP’s 450 leaders and workers were killed who were directly involved in the July agitation and August 5 was achieved after a huge bloodshed. 

The BNP leader said Sheikh Hasina established misrule and ruined the election, a democratic process.  When the election process is progressing two or one political parties now raised demand for PR system which was never discussed earlier in reform. 

“PR is not suitable system for Bangladesh. Our neighboring country India never follows the PR system. In the USA and the UK which are democratic countries never introduced PR system,” he added. 

Chaired by BNP treasurer and president of Dewanganj Upazila BNP M Rashiduzzaman Millat, it was addressed, among others, by BNP Media Cell Convener Prof Dr Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, Convener, “Amra BNP Paribar” Atiqur Rahman Rumon, President of District BNP, Faridul Kabir Talukdar Shamim its General Secretary, Advocate Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun.

Earlier, the BNP leader distributed financial assistance and auto rickshaw among the 16 families of martyred and injured in the mass uprising of the students and people in 2024 in Bakshiganj and Dewanganj Upazilas of the district.
