CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, Oct 24, 2025 (BSS) - Chittagong University (CU) has launched six new eco-friendly electronic cars (e-cars) to ease students' transportation on campus. CU Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin inaugurated the operation of the e-cars at 3:30 pm today at the zero point area.
Among others, Assistant Proctor Md Nurul Hamid Kanan, CUCSU General Secretary Saeed Bin Habib, Joint Secretary Ayobur Rahman Tawfick, and Communication and Accommodation Secretary Md Ishak Bhuiyan were present.
Md Ishak Bhuiyan said, "Expanding the number of e-cars was one of our key manifesto commitments. In this first phase, six new vehicles have been added. We plan to introduce specific routes and stops to ensure e-car access in areas where it was previously unavailable. Based on students' demand, more vehicles will be added in the future, Insha'Allah."
He also mentioned that CUCSU is considering reducing the current fare rates. "Many students have urged us to lower the fare. We will soon hold discussions with the administration regarding this issue," Ishak added.
Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin said, "We have increased the number of e-cars for students' convenience. If needed, more vehicles will be added later. Areas like Forestry and Law Faculty, where e-cars did not operate before, will now be included in the routes. We've also directed that fares should not exceed Taka 10 per trip."
Earlier, on August 19, CU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Yeahia Akhter inaugurated the first six e-cars to reduce transportation difficulties for students on campus.
