Speakers call for sincere efforts to identify fistula patients

GAIBANDHA, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a function urged volunteers to work dedicatedly to identify fistula patients so that Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district can be declared fistula-free soon.

They said obstetric fistula is fully curable if diagnosed early and treated under free facilities available at medical college hospitals, including LAMB Hospital in Parbatipur, Dinajpur.

The daylong orientation on fistula affairs was held at the Upazila Health Complex conference room on Tuesday, organized by the Upazila Health and Family Planning Department with support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and LAMB Hospital.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Masudar Rahman inaugurated the programme as chief guest and urged volunteers to work with dedication during the search campaign.

Project Manager of LAMB Hospital Mohammad Ali and District Facilitator Shariful Islam discussed effective ways to identify fistula suspects to achieve a fistula-free upazila.

A total of 36 volunteers from different unions participated in the orientation.

According to sources, LAMB Hospital has long been identifying and referring fistula patients under the "Elimination of Genital Fistula by Capturing, Treating, Rehabilitation and Re-integrating in Bangladesh (FRRei)" project for treatment at Rangpur and Bogura medical college hospitals.
