MYMENSINGH, Oct 30, 2025 (BSS) - Twenty meritorious students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have been awarded the prestigious international scholarships of the Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) of Japan for their outstanding academic performance.

BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan formally handed over the scholarship money to the recipients at his office on Thursday at 2 pm.
 
Student Affairs Advisor Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque was also present at the event.

Each of the 20 students received Taka 40,000 for the academic years 2020–21 and 2021–22. Among the awardees, eight students belong to the Faculty of Agriculture, four to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, four to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, and four to the Faculty of Fisheries.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. A. K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan expressed his gratitude to the NEF for recognizing the academic excellence of BAU students and supporting them financially.

“The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation of Japan has awarded scholarships to 20 meritorious students from our faculties of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, and Fisheries based on their results in the first and second year examinations,” the VC said.   

“We sincerely thank the foundation for their recognition and support. Such scholarships not only help students financially but also motivate others to strive for academic excellence,” he said.

Founded in 1989 by Mr. Nagao, the Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) is a Japan-based non-governmental organization dedicated to the conservation of the natural environment and the promotion of sustainable development in developing countries. 

The organization has long been supporting young scholars by providing research and educational scholarships at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

In addition to Bangladesh Agricultural University, Dhaka University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (Gazipur), Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, and Jahangirnagar University are also included under this scholarship programmme.
