Shariful hopes reopening Nilphamari textile mill within 3 months

NILPHAMARI, April 13, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam has hoped that closed textile mill in the district will resume operation within next two to three months, creating employment opportunities for locals.

“Initiatives have been taken to reopen closed jute and textile mills across the country. An international tender has already been floated for the Darwani Textile Mill in Nilphamari, and better investors are showing interest,” he said. 
The state minister said this yesterday while speaking with journalists after visiting textile mills in Dinajpur and Nilphamari.

The textile mill in Dinajpur will also be reopened soon, he said adding that reopening closed industrial factories is a key promise given in BNP’s election manifesto.
 
Shariful Alam said that efforts must be made to revive the glory of jute as ‘golden fibre’ while measures are being taken to ensure fair price of jute for farmers.
 
He said initiatives have been undertaken to raise public awareness about using jute products as an alternative to plastic.

Member of Parliament from Nilphamari-2 constituency Advocate Al Faruk Abdul Latif; Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Bilquis Jahan Rimi, Director of Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) H.M. Nurul Islam were present among others.

Later, the State Minister visited Classical Handmade Products BD Limited, a handicraft and cottage industry production organization located in Haziganj under Gorgram Union of the Sadar Upazila.
