
DHAKA, Apr 13, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested today an alleged gold smuggler along with gold bars weighing over 1.1 kilograms, valued at approximately Tk 2.47 crore, while attempting to smuggle them into India through the Darshana border.
According to a BGB press release, the operation was conducted early Monday in the Darshana Old Railway Station area by a patrol team from Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), acting on confidential intelligence.
The detainee was identified as Alamgir Khan, 55, son of the late Badal Khan, a resident of Mobarakpara village in Darshana.
A search conducted in the presence of local witnesses led to the recovery of 10 gold bars concealed around his waist using khaki scotch tape.
The recovered gold weighed approximately 1.166 kilograms and has an estimated market value of Tk 24,789,160.
BGB also seized a mobile phone believed to have been used in the smuggling operation.
Legal proceedings are currently underway in this regard.
