
DHAKA, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Khan Choudhury today said the government is firmly committed to upholding the existing freedom of the media and will continue to take all necessary initiatives in this regard.
"All must work together to strengthen national unity and advance the country's development," he said while addressing at the "Who's Who Bangladesh 2026" award ceremony held at a hotel in the capital this evening.
Yeaser Khan said Bangladesh is a country full of potential, stressing that there is no alternative to unity, sincerity and collective efforts to turn this potential into reality.
The state minister also urged all to move forward focusing on future development and progress instead of dwelling on past controversies. "Let us work together, stay united and ensure Bangladesh's success," he added.
Highlighting the government's stance, he said the current government is elected by the people and believes in development-oriented politics. He called upon all to work for the country upholding the principle of 'Bangladesh first'.
In his speech, the state minister also shared his personal and professional experiences, saying that before joining politics, he had worked in the information technology sector in the United Kingdom for a long time and served in various international organizations.
Later, following his family's political legacy, he engaged himself in serving the people and was elected as a Member of Parliament from Nandail in Mymensingh.
This year's "Who's Who Bangladesh-2026" award recipients include Vice-Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University Professor Dr G.K.M. Mostafizur Rahman in agriculture, Farida Akhtar Popy (Bobita) in Arts and culture, novelist Rahitul Islam in arts and literature and Mansur Ahmed Chowdhury in education.
Among others, Ershad Ullah, MP from Chattogram-8, received the Entrepreneur (Male) award, Kona Alam the Entrepreneur (Female) award, Shakawath Hossain (CEO, Hotel Sheraton and Westin) in global profession, Shafik Ahmed (CEO of 71 TV) in journalism, Saeed Ur Rab (USA) in sports, Shanti Sree (Sri Chinmoy Foundation) in social service, while Shahidul Alam, founder of Drik, received the lifetime achievement award.
