DU hosts workshop on underwater photography, scuba diving

DHAKA, May 13, 2026 (BSS) - A day-long workshop on underwater photography and scuba diving was held at Dhaka University (DU) today.

At the initiative of the Television, Film and Photography (TFP) Department of the university, the workshop was organized by the Creative Wings and TFP Photography Club. 

The sessions were conducted by Creative Wings founder and underwater photographer Abir Mallik, and dive master and underwater photographer Sharif Sarwar. 

Participants were introduced to the technical aspects of underwater still photography as well as the fundamentals of professional scuba diving.

A total of 100 students participated in the workshop. Of them, 80 students attended theoretical sessions, while 20 students received hands-on practical training underwater.

At the end of the programme, Abir Mallik said the enthusiasm shown by the trainee students in learning such an adventurous and specialized field was highly encouraging. 

He noted that opportunities for underwater photography in Bangladesh are gradually expanding, expressing hope that young talents would lead the sector in the future.

TFP Department Chairperson Saiyeed Shahjada Al Kareem said the initiative was aimed at equipping students with modern technical skills beyond conventional photography. 

He added that underwater photography is a promising field globally and the workshop would open new professional opportunities for the participants.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to trainers Abir Mallik and Sharif Sarwar by the TFP Photography Club in recognition of their successful conduct of the workshop.
