DHAKA, June 3, 2026 (BSS) – US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen today paid a courtesy call on Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee at his ministry office here.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed various issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and the United States.

Anee said Bangladesh and US have long enjoyed friendly and strong bilateral relations.

He called for increasing institutional investment and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education, technological collaboration, vocational training and research.

He also expressed hope that the US would continue its important role in Bangladesh’s socio-economic development in the future.

As part of implementing its electoral commitments, the government has already approved the long-awaited Padma Barrage Project for the people of the country’s south-western and north-western regions, the minister said.

He also expressed optimism that the Teesta Master Plan would receive approval soon after the completion of the necessary examinations and surveys.

Ambassador Brent T. Christensen said the assumption of office by the elected government would further accelerate Bangladesh’s economic development.

He reaffirmed that the US would continue its cooperation in strengthening democracy and advancing socio-economic development as it has done in the past.

Water Resources Secretary Dr A.K.M. Shahabuddin, Chief of the Economic Section at the US Embassy Mike Pennel, and Political and Economic Officer Charles Besnard were present at the meeting.
