DHAKA, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the government's goal is to develop persons with disabilities into capable working individuals through education, skills training, and rehabilitation.

“Efforts are underway to make them employable and bring them into the mainstream of society. If this population can be made capable of working, they will become a public resource for the country,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after an exchange meeting with officials and employees at the conference room of the National Foundation for the Development of Persons with Disabilities in Mirpur-14 in the city.

Dr Zahid said, "Our goal is to develop persons with disabilities into capable working individuals in society through education and skill development. As part of rehabilitation, we aim to assist in arranging jobs for them and help create employment opportunities in various institutions. The government is working tirelessly so that persons with disabilities are not isolated from society but can become part of an inclusive social system."

"Our efforts include further enhancing the capacity of educational institutions for persons with disabilities, developing necessary manpower, and expanding such colleges and service centers not only in Dhaka but also outside Dhaka. Because without sufficient trained manpower, it is not possible to provide necessary services to the disabled population,” he added.
