US envoy meets disaster management minister, pledges deeper cooperation

DHAKA, June 15, 2026 (BSS) - US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen today paid a courtesy call on Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu at the Secretariat and discussed issues of mutual interest, including disaster risk reduction, humanitarian assistance and sustainable development.

During the meeting, the ambassador expressed optimism that the friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United States would be further strengthened in the coming days, opening up new avenues of cooperation.

He reaffirmed the United States' commitment to working more closely with Bangladesh in the areas of sustainable development, disaster risk reduction, post-earthquake rescue operations, establishment of rescue centres and humanitarian assistance activities.

The minister thanked the government and people of the United States for their continued support to Bangladesh's development efforts.

He stressed the importance of conducting joint research on emerging forms of disasters and measures for their mitigation and management.

Dulu also sought US support for the repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Engineer M. Iqbal Hossain and Secretary of the ministry Md Saidur Rahman Khan were present at the meeting.
