3 die of dengue, 251 fresh cases reported

DHAKA, July 8, 2026 (BSS) - Health officials today said they recorded 251 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts killing at least three persons in the past 24 hours with most patients reporting in health facilities in southwestern Barishal region.

“During the period, (of the 251) 66 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division” which appeared to have been the worst victim of the mosquito-carried diseases, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

It said among the rests, 40 were hospitalised in Chattogram division, 19 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 24 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 33 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 40 in Khulna division, 15 in Mymensingh division, 13 in Rajshahi division and two in Sylhet Division.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 22 deaths, while the disease inflicted 7,557.

The dengue last year claimed 413 lives and inflicted 102,861 people in the country.

Besides, the dengue claimed 575 lives and inflicted 101,214 people in 2024.
