Khulna to mark July Mass Uprising Day with extensive programmes

KHULNA, July 7, 2026 (BSS) - A preparatory meeting was held at the Khulna Deputy Commissioner's Office today to finalize programmes for observing July Mass Uprising Day on August 5 across the district with due solemnity.

The meeting, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal, reviewed a series of commemorative, religious and public awareness programmes to mark the day.

As part of the observance, floral tributes would be paid at the July Martyrs' Memorial at Shibbari intersection at 9:00 am on August 5.

Special prayers will be offered at mosques, while temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship will hold prayer services at convenient times.

Besides, documentary films on the July Mass Uprising will be screened at key locations across the city, including Shibbari intersection, Shaheed Hadis Park, Moylapota intersection, Joragate, the Khulna University area at Gollamari, Zero Point, the KUET area, Rupsha intersection and Notun Rasta.

Special meals will be served at noon to inmates and beneficiaries of hospitals, prisons, old-age homes, orphanages, day-care centres, child development centres, children's homes, street children rehabilitation centres, centres for persons with disabilities and vagrant welfare institutions.

Drawing and essay competitions for students will also be organized.

A reception for the family members of those killed in the July Mass Uprising, injured and July fighters will be held at 11:00 am at the Khulna District Shilpakala Academy auditorium. The programme will also include a remembrance ceremony and a discussion meeting.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sheikh Imran, Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Parishad Md. Mominur Rahman, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (South) Amit Kumar Barman, Deputy Chief Information Officer (Routine Charge) of the Khulna Regional Information Office Md. Mehedi Hasan, officials of various government departments, and representatives of the July fighters and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement attended the meeting.
