NARSINGDI, July 8, 2026 (BSS) - An eight-year-old girl was killed after the wall of an abandoned mud house collapsed on her due to continuous heavy rainfall in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila.

The tragic incident took place around 12:30pm today in Maijpara village under Morjal Union.

The deceased was identified as Tanzhuma Akter, 8, daughter of Apel Mia of the area and a Class-I student at the local Maijpara Government Primary School.

Md Mujibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station, said that police visited the scene after receiving information about the accident.

According to police and local residents, Tanzhuma had just returned home after school when the wall of a roofless, abandoned mud house beside her home suddenly collapsed due to incessant rainfall. She was trapped under the debris and died on the spot.

Asma Begum, a reserved member of Morjal Union Parishad, said the prolonged heavy rain had weakened the structure, causing the wall to cave in.

“The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the family,” she said.

She added that the girl's father is currently in Cox's Bazar. The family will hold her funeral after he returns home.

OC Mujibur Rahman said police have spoken with the victim's family and will take the necessary steps regarding the incident.
