Newly appointed UN Permanent Representative Irene Khan gets state minister status

DHAKA, July 8, 2026 (BSS) – The government has granted state minister status to Bangladesh's newly appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Irene Khan.

The Cabinet Division today issued a gazette notification stating that Irene Khan has been accorded the status of a state minister while serving as Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

According to the notification, she will be entitled to the rank of state minister and receive the salary, allowances and other benefits applicable to the position during her tenure.

The order takes immediate effect.
