Commerce Sec calls for discipline, accountability in ministry

DHAKA, July 08, 2026 (BSS)- Commerce Secretary Ataur Rahman Khan today called upon officials and employees of the Commerce Ministry to foster a culture of harmony, discipline and accountability to ensure transparency and professionalism in carrying out the ministry's responsibilities.

He made the call while addressing the charge assumption ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of the Commerce Ministry Cultural and Welfare Council as the chief guest at the ministry's conference room in the capital, said a press release.

The commerce secretary stressed the importance of building a workplace based on mutual respect, trust and cooperation, saying the Cultural and Welfare Council is not only a platform for organizing cultural activities but also for promoting a healthy working environment and resolving workplace issues through elected representatives.

He urged all officials and employees to discharge their duties sincerely in line with existing laws, rules and regulations, saying professional integrity is essential for the effective functioning of the ministry.

Ataur Rahman Khan described the democratic election of the council as a positive example of organisational culture. He congratulated the newly elected committee and thanked the outgoing members for their contributions.

The biennial election of the council was held on June 29, when 14 members were elected. 

Based on their proposals, the new executive committee was constituted with Probhanshu Mohan Som, Deputy Secretary, as president and Showkat Hossain, Personal Officer, as general secretary.

The programme also included a farewell reception for retiring ministry officials Abdul Majid and Shafiq Uddin. 

Among others, Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akter, Additional Secretary (WTO) Khadija Naznin, Additional Secretary (IIT) Shibir Bichitra Barua, along with senior officials, attended on the occasion.
